Many years ago, when I was young, I tried getting the lm sensors stuff to work and gave up. It worked for others, but not for me. Now, many years (and motherboards later) I decide to try it again.
As root, I type sensors-detect, answer YES to all the questions, and allow it to overwrite /etc/sysconfig/lm_sensors and to restart service lm_sensors. It loads the modules lm83, it87 and k8temp.
The command sensors gives a text printout of what the sensors are reading (this seems good).
Now I may want something like a gnome sensors applet.
