Running a secure Linux system.
- Have good passwords.
- Have a backup system.
- Keep on top of software updates.
- Properly configure tcpwrappers.
- Run tripwire.
- Use ssh.
- consider running autorpm.
- consider running port sentry.
- consider running libsafe.
I run the latest (more or less) release of Red Hat Linux.
It is essential to install updates as quickly as possible after
they come out. Security updates fix well known security
problems, and if you don't plug the holes, you will be visited.
In fact, you should not connect a system to the network at all until
the security updates are in place.
